This site is here to help people in Richmond Virginia.  My goal is to help organize events so people can meet others and have a space for communication.

As I have been in the community I have seen there is a bias to discuss “what we believe” in our Christian Churches.  This emphasis on having a correct belief system or a well defined belief system leaves little room for those who question the belief system being taught in our Churches.  What about other beliefs?  What about other people?  Isn’t it about people being good people in the end?

The emerging conversation in the context of EmergingRichmond.org is about Christianity but it does not mean that you have to be Christian to participate.  There are no faith statements, no boxes to check, only the desire to have the conversation and contribute with your ideas and perspectives.  The emerging conversation is a conversation being had about the future of the church and the beliefs.  The phrase “emerging church” or “emerging Christianity” has been around for several years so  please explore the links in the blogroll on the right to read more background.

I believe that in the end we as people in God’s earth have a natural need to discuss God and religion in person with other live people.  So I hope to provide a service to the Richmond VA community to facillitate these conversations and set up some meetings.

I am using this as a way to celebrate the differences people bring to the table and their insights into the conversation about Christianity.  This is not about believing the same, it is about figuring out what it means to believe for YOU.
